August is almost over
And I haven't bloged since the middle of July! What's wrong with me? Where have I been? A better question would be where haven't I been?
After my last post I spent 3 weeks flying into Albuquerque, NM to work on my client the Navajo Tribal Utility Authority, located in Fort Defiance, AZ (a good 2 1/2 hours from Albuquerque). The audit team all stayed in the nice Hampton Inn in Gallup, NM (1/2 away from the client) during the week. We worked between 12 and 14 hours a day an we ate at the only food establishments in the area: Taco Bell, KFC, Subway, Lotsaburger, Party Time Pizza, and the hospital cafeteria. Actually, the hospital had the best food, go figure. It was not a very "clean" or "organized" client and it was extremely frustrating and stressfully. Luckily, for the three weeks I was out there, I had to leave early twice during the week to go back to Dallas so that I could catch my flights to weddings. The first wedding was Karen and Will's weeding. That was a lot of fun. It was a Davidson reunion with so many of my favorite Davidsonians. Elder, Bjorn, Ramya, and Dave were there. The newlywed couple Emily and Evan were there. Brothers Brad and Bryan were there. My first bf, Tyler, was there. And even a few girls I wasn't very close to at Davidson were there. We all stayed in one of two houses rented by the brides mother for the college friends. The "girls" house was gorgeous and a lot of fun. It was a great relaxing trip, only one week after the funeral.
The second wedding was that of my second cousin Matt Post which took place in the back yard of the brides family home. The setting was amazing, among the hills and valleys of Santa Barbara, CA. It was a fund family reunion, but it was way too short for the travel. I had to drive the 2 1/2 hours back from Arizona to Albuquerque Thursday night for a flight into Dallas. My personal chaffer (Patrick) picked me up, stopped at my apartment to pick up a few things I had forgotten and drove me to Heather and Alan's house (30 minutes away). The next morning we awoke and drove to the airport at 5:15 AM, caught a flight to Orange County, rented a car, drove to the hotel my parents were staying at in Laguna (30 minute drive), hung out at the pool for an hour, had lunch, then got back on the road and drove for 4 hours to go 150 miles to Santa Barbara (stupid CA traffic!). We arrived around 6PM, had dinner with some relatives and went to bed. We had lunch the next day with more relatives and then went to the wedding that night (beautiful and fun). Sunday morning we drove 2 hours to LAX and then spent another 3 hours on the plan to go back to Dallas. Luckily, I didn't have to go back to ABQ after that. Whew! That was a lot of traveling.
Next weekend I have my last wedding of the season. I will be leaving for Charlotte on Thursday night and staying with friends from Davidson for 3 nights. I was a brides maid in their weeding 2 1/2 years ago and now she is pregnant with a little girl (arriving on my birthday week!). I will be attending a wedding of two friends from Grad school, Cat and Brian. I'm really looking forward to the grad school reunion.
As for Patrick and his family:
Patrick is doing quite well with a new job teaching at Ursiline High School (all girls Catholic) and taking two classes at SMU. He's keeping busy and so is his dad. Dr. Triplett is going on a white-water rafting trip next week with some friends and he's very excited about it. I think that's a good sign.
As for Patrick and Me:
I don't know. Things are a bit...strained? I think things have cooled down a bit too much for me. I'm scared of what I should do next. I think it's only fair to give it a bit more time. For goodness sakes, he's got a bit going on in his life right now. He may just need some time to cool down. I'm sticking with it for right now. We'll see.
Much love to all....
