What A Weekend!!
Thursday night:
I said "Good-bye Little Rock, I'll see you the first week of '05!"
Friday night:
In my car on the way home from my blind date, I realized that in 25 years (Actually the past 9 years) I've had 9 blind dates!
1. Teddy-Homecoming Sophomore year of High School
2. Sean-Senior Prom (most fun night)
3. Matt-first Davidson Eating House Freshman semi-formal
4. Brian- 3rd Davidson Eating House Freshman semi-formal
5. Shaheen-Freshman year- Connor's "screw-your-sis" party (best match of all)
6. Sid-Junior year Rusk Spring Formal
7. Tod- My cousin-in-law's best friend from high school (most compatible)
8. Nole- Brooke's Medical intern friend
9. Mark- SMU executive MBA friend of Mark and Shelly and acquaintance of my brother-in-law.
Well, every single one was fun and a memorable night. I had 3 second dates following the blind date, but that's it.
This last one was a whole lot of fun. We did my favorite things. We ate a good restaurant with the two married couples that set us up (after getting caught in a horrible traffic jam that landed me 40 minutes late!) Then all 6 of us went to "Main Event" This is a place Susan and Brenna would LOVE! It's full of arcade like games, a bar, laser tag, 30 lanes of bowling, and tons more! We had to wait an hour and 1/2 for a bowling lane to open up but we had fun playing air-hockey, hoops, wack-a-mole, fussball, and cards (because my sister never goes anywhere without her cards). We did have a fun time...but....there was no spark. And, as my sister said, he was loading up the strikes against him. First strike: he's been unemployed for almost a year. Strike two: he didn't even offer to pay for my dinner (which most likely is because of strike one). Yet, he was a math major in college and did grow up in Fairfield County, CT (the same county I grew up in). But we just didn't seem to really hit it off. BUt, he is a really nice guy, and if he asked me on a second date I'd, of course, go, since it is hard to really make a connection on a group date. But I've really already kind of counted him out. Plus, I know this really isn't an issue in the beginning, but it's potential is large, I think he's Jewish. Now, I don't have any problem with him being Jewish, but if I starting thinking long term, I'm probably not going to marry a Jewish man, since the Christian church is such a large part of my life. Any way...
Saturday:
Went to see National treasure with my family: I really liked it. If you like Indiana Jones, you will like this movie. Then we went to Smith and Wollenskies (famous stake restaurant).
Saturday night:
I rushed home to change into formal attire. I signed up to volunteer (through KPMG that audits this organization) at the crystal Charity Ball (THE biggest formal event in Dallas-The richest people in Dallas go to this black tie formal affair). Well, luckily Michele called me to ride together and I had thought I was due there 30 minutes later than I was supposed to get there, so I rushed through the getting ready process and met her outside 15 minutes later. Well, we ended up working in a back room writing down peoples names next to the number of their ticket. Not very glamorous, but when our shift was over at 10:15, we went to the ballroom where the guests were eating dinner and the BIG BAND was playing and people were dance. It's a huge event. There were several hundred people there. I actually some how got the cute guy (the one from training that flirted with me) to ask me to give him a dance lesson on the dance floor. SOOOOO much fun. We then stood around and talked with the group for a while and then we walked to the cars.
On our way home, Michele and I were talking about crazy Dallas drivers when we were involved in a hit and run. We were on an exit ramp and this station wagon jumps 2 lanes at the double white lines to get on to the ramp and into the lane that Michele was occupying. She swerved into the other lane a little too hard and her 4Runner over corrected and fish tailed and the station wagon hit the back of Michele's drivers side. We pulled over to the side of the ramp and station wagon kept going. It was so scary. We followed the station wagon, which was actually moving at a pretty slow-normal speed, wrote down the license plate and continued to follow them. Then they took an exit. We just kept going. We called Michele's parents and told them the situation. She was pretty shaken up, as was I. When we got to my apartment, we looked at the damage. It was pretty bad. A pretty big dent in the driver's side behind the back wheel with some pretty significant holes, and a missing light cover. After talking to her parent's for a while she decided to drive home ( to the apartment complex across the street from mine). I got to my apartment and dropped to the floor and thanked God that he heard me ask for his help and saved our lives and I prayed for Michele. I'm still a bit shaken up, but it will be OK. We were not hurt and we got the license plate number. It will all be OK, expensive, but OK.
Well, it's 1 AM and I have to teach my little 3-4 year old's tomorrow morning at 9:15. I must get to sleep.
Good night.
Much Love,
and
GOD BLESS!
